Somewhere near the swamp lay the Invisible City. Thousands of smiling, cheering faces that greeted him every time he took a walk down that road. some days it was an appreciated change from the daily grind, but others, like this one, it was a chore.
"smile more!" they cheered. "Laugh more. Love more. Be happier!"
He shut his eyes and ran his shaking fingers through his hair. "I cant." he said. "i cant do it anymore."
The faces all fell quiet. their glowing, blurring mass falling to a stop and putting into detail the expressions on their faces. Grotesque, pasty white faces. They screamed in rage now, swarming the edges of the road, but they could go no further than that. They stood at the edge, watching him shrink away and howled in discontent.
He always knew it would come to an end one day. There would come a time when he could no longer force the smile on his lips to please the crowds.....
